Making of Ambabai.com
"Over the past 17 years, with the blessings of the Goddess and the continued happiness of our visitors, maintaining this website has brought us invaluable insights and experiences."
The idea of Ambabai.com was conceived in 2007 with the objective of creating a unique digital platform devoted to Shri Mahalaxmi (Ambabai) of Kolhapur. At that time, there were very few initiatives to connect religious traditions with the modern medium of the internet. The thought behind the project was to make the rich cultural, spiritual, and mythological heritage of Kolhapur’s Mahalaxmi (Ambabai) Temple accessible not only to devotees in Maharashtra or India but also to followers of Sanatan Hindu Dharma across the globe.
After two years of consistent planning, development, and content gathering, this dream took its first major step forward. On Monday, 28th September 2009 the website was formally inaugurated by Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur. This inauguration was not just a ceremonial event but also a symbolic recognition of blending tradition with technology. The blessings of Kolhapur’s royal family gave the project a new stature and authenticity, ensuring that the site would be respected by devotees and scholars alike.
To bring the heritage alive beyond the digital space, the team behind Ambabai.com organised a grand exhibition of rare photographs of Ambabai at the prestigious Balgandharv Art Gallery in Pune in 2011. The exhibition showcased never-before-seen images and artistic depictions of the Goddess, allowing devotees to experience the grace and historical importance of Ambabai in a visually captivating way. The response was overwhelming, with thousands of visitors expressing their devotion and admiration.
After more than a decade, in 2024, the exhibition was held again at the same gallery in Pune. This revival drew devotees and art lovers from all walks of life, reaffirming the cultural and devotional bond people continue to share with Ambabai. It also demonstrated how the website had become a trusted brand for religious art, information, and inspiration.
Today, Ambabai.com stands as a widely popular platform among Hindu religious people worldwide. It not only provides information and resources but also serves as a medium to preserve and promote the deep-rooted traditions of Kolhapur’s Mahalaxmi (Ambabai). With its global reach, the website continues to inspire faith, devotion, and cultural pride among devotees across continents.
