Palace Theatre
As the name suggests, this building is truly royal. Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj himself took the initiative to stand up this building. Seeds of art and music cultivated here, and its credit goes to Palace Theatre… today’s Keshavrao Bhosale Natyagruh.
After visiting Olympic stadium and a theatre beside it in Rome; Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj returned with the same concept in mind and raised these buildings. Executed during 1913 to 1915, the stage of this theatre measures 20 ft x 34 ft. Below this stage, there exists a 10 ft deep pit; the purpose of it is to resound the voice. Proper drainages are build to keep this water flowing. There are no pillars to this theatre. Drama can be properly seen and sound can be heard from anywhere. This royal theatre consists two special rooms in it’s balcony from where, women from royal family can see drama or musical program.
पॅलेस थिएटर
नावाप्रमाणेच राजेशाही थाट मिरवणार्‍या या वास्तूची बांधणी देखील स्वत: छत्रपती शाहू महाराजांच्या पुढाकारानेच झाली. याच कालावधीत संगीत आणि नाट्यकलेची बीजेदेखील कोल्हापूरात रूजली. याचं सारं श्रेय जातं पॅलेस थिएटरला... अर्थात आजच्या केशवराव भोसले नाट्यगृहाला.
रोम भेटीवरून परतल्यानंतर तिथे असलेले ऑलिंपिक मैदान व त्याला लागूनच असलेले नाट्यगृह यांची प्रेरणा घेऊन छ. शाहूंनी या वास्तू उभारल्या. सन 1913 ते 1915 या कालावधीत बांधल्या गेलेल्या या नाट्यगृहाचा रंगमंच 20 फूट बाय 34 फूट इतका प्रशस्त असून रंगमंचाखाली आवाज घुमण्यासाठी पाण्याने भरलेला 10 फूट खोल खड्डा आहे. पाणी खेळते राहण्यासाठी पक्की गटारे बांधली आहेत. नाट्यगृहास कोठेही खांब नाहीत. कुठेही बसले तरी नाटक व्यवस्थित दिसावे व स्पष्ट आवाज ऐकू यावा अशी रचना केलेली आहे. नाट्यगृह आखीव, रेखीव व राजेशाही थाटाचे असून त्या काळी राजघराण्यातील स्त्रियांना नाटक पाहता यावे म्हणून बाल्कनीमध्ये दोन बंदिस्त खोल्यांची विशेष रचना करण्यात आलेली आहे.
