Sathmari Maidan
A place to be a witness of a fight between highly trained players and angry elephants. This game was very famous during those periods. A big sports ground, stone towers located in various places, a door from which only one man can enter; this was the layout of Sathmari Maidan. After the brave sportsmen entered into the ground, an angry elephant was released to fight with sportsmen. Sportsmen use to prick the elephant with the spear. When elephant turns up to attach this sportsman, others use to prick him from the opposite side. For the rescue, sportsmen use to hide in stone towers. If elephant catches any sportsmen, other colleagues attach that elephant with arrows or fireworks were played, then elephant gets terrified and release the sportsman. Rarely, elephants have taken the lives of the players.
The cohesion of bravery and quickness; this royal game existed only in Kolhapur & Baroda Sansthan.

तरबेज खेळाडू विरूद्ध मदमस्त व रागीट हत्ती यांची क्षणोक्षणी उत्कंठा
वाढविणारी झुंज पहायची तर ती याच ठिकाणी. संस्थान काळात हा आखाडा खूप प्रसिद्ध होता.
एक भलामोठा प्रशस्त आखाडा, त्यात ठराविक अंतरावर गोलाकार बुरूज, त्या बुरूजात जेमतेम
एक माणूस ये-जा करू शकेल एवढाच दरवाजा अशी या आखाड्याची मांडणी. साठमारी खेळणारे वीर
आखाड्यात उतरल्यावर मुख्य दरवाजातून आत एक मदमस्त हत्ती सोडला जाई. खेळाडू भाल्याने
हत्तीला टोचत असे. मग हत्ती त्याच्या मागे लागत असे. हत्ती रागावून अंगावर आला की खेळाडू
बुरूजात जात. तोपर्यन्त दुसरा वीर हत्तीला भाला टोचत असे. मग हत्ती त्याच्या मागे लागत
असे. चुकून हत्तीने वीराला धरले तर बाण मारले जात, फटाक्यांचा आवाज केला जाई. हत्ती
घाबरून वीरांना सोडून देत. काही वेळेला वीरांचे प्राणही हत्तींनी घेतले आहेत.
पौरूषत्त्व, धैर्य अन् चापल्य यांचा अनोखा मिलाप असलेला हा राजेशाही
थाटातील खेळ केवळ कोल्हापूर व बडोदा या दोनच संस्थानात अस्तित्वात होता.
